Local folklore takes centre stage during Euskal Jaia on 9th September. Traditional Basque dancers fill the streets of Zarautz to the sound of the txistu and other Basque instruments. The festivities start in the days prior. From 1st to 9th September the town holds dance and trikitilari contests (the trikiti is a Basque accordion), stages folk theatre performances, awards the Lizardi Award to young bertsolaris (traditional Basque singers) and holds the children’s Euskal Jaia festivities. Come and celebrate summer and Euskal Jaia in Zarautz!
