Pagoeta Nature Reserve

Pagoeta Nature Reserve

Pagoeta Nature Reserve

Pagoeta Nature Park strikes the perfect balance between the natural and human environments. It covers an area of 2,860 hectares, most of which lie within the municipal boundaries of Aia and, to a lesser extent, Zarautz and Zestoa. It was named after Mount Pagoeta, which stands at a height of 678 metres and forms part of the coastal mountain chain of Gipuzkoa.

Declared a Nature Park on 29 September 1998, it was originally a series of properties owned by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, specifically in Laurgain and Altzola, combined with the enclaves of Iturraran, Agorregi and Bekola.

For an initial introduction to the Park, the best thing to do is to head to Iturraran Parketxea, which offers information to the general public. Visitors' personal preferences will then determine whether they opt to visit the museums, nature sites, historical heritage sites or decide on a hiking route.
